Franco Rocca Cantina Del Brichetto BARBARESCO “GALLINA” DOCG (2019) – Piemonte
A refined, high-toned Barbaresco from Neive’s Gallina cru: lifted red fruit, rose, mineral tension and fine tannins—elegant, precise and beautifully capable of ageing.
THE GRAPE
100% Nebbiolo from the Gallina cru in the commune of Neive, where calcareous marl soils with sandy veins give the wine its perfume, freshness and fine-grained tannic shape.
THE WINE
This is Barbaresco at its most delicate and articulate. The nose opens with red cherry, cranberry, raspberry and dried rose, then reveals wild herbs, white pepper, balsamic lift and a subtle mineral edge. On the palate, it is medium-bodied but energetic: clear fruit, juicy acidity, fine tannins and a long, saline finish that keeps the wine alive. The 2019 vintage gives Gallina both fragrance and structure, and Franco Rocca’s restrained winemaking lets the cru speak clearly rather than drowning it.
FOOD PAIRING
Vitello tonnato, tajarin al ragù, roast guinea fowl, porcini, truffle pasta or aged Piemonte cheese. Decant for a couple of hours and serve with food that has the same balance of freshness and depth.
