The newest cru in the family and the oldest vines they own: taut, mineral, and quietly thrilling.

THE GRAPE
Nebbiolo planted in 1944 — eighty-year-old vines on the sandier soils of Marcorino in Neive, a plot the family took on in 2018. Sand gives Nebbiolo perfume and precision rather than power, and vines this old give it depth.

THE WINE
The most delicate of the three Barbarescos and the one that surprises people. Wild strawberry, rose, white pepper and a mineral, almost saline line running through it. Two years in big cask, unhurried. 2022 gave it ripeness; the old vines kept it straight. Beautiful now with air, and built to go a long way.

FOOD PAIRING
Vitello tonnato, roast veal, tajarin with porcini, or a simple grilled quail. Anything delicate enough not to talk over it.

THE WINEMAKER
Cascina delle Rose is a small farmhouse sitting between two of Barbaresco's best crus, Tre Stelle and Rio Sordo. Giovanna Rizzolio started bottling her own wine here in 1992, at a time when women in the Langhe did not run wineries and almost nobody farmed organically. She did both. Today her sons Riccardo and Davide run it the same way: five and a half hectares, organic, native yeasts, big old casks and nothing clever. The wines are light on their feet and slow to reveal themselves

In 2018, Cascina Delle Rose seized the opportunity to include this exceptional cru in its production lineup. The small vineyard, planted in 1944, is meticulously tended with unwavering passion. Due to its extremely limited yield, it is offered first to longstanding clients, with the inaugural vintage available from 2024.
The site’s Tertiary marine-origin soils feature dense, varied layers of clay-limestone marls, abundant sandstone, clay, and silt.
Marcorino Barbaresco arises from a meticulous field selection of 100% Nebbiolo grapes, delivering remarkable complexity and depth alongside elegant finesse.
