La Casetta “Apogeo” Ormeasco di Pornassio IGT (2020) - Liguria
THE GRAPE
Ormeasco.
THE WINE
The Ormeasco grape stands out as one of the most obscure and lesser-known grape varieties in Italy. Originating from the same family as the Dolcetto from Piedmont, the Ligurian expression of this grape yields wines that markedly differ from those produced in Piedmont. Exhibiting a generally brighter color, intense perfume, and sweeter tannins, it retains a distinct bitter characteristic. The uniqueness of this grape is truly remarkable.
The winemaking process involves spontaneous fermentation in steel vats without the use of artificial yeasts, all conducted at controlled temperatures. The refinement takes place in wooden vats for a duration of 9 months, resulting in an explosion of flavors reminiscent of gum powder, chalk, flint, and smoked fruits. The tasting experience is akin to a rock'n'roll concert on your palate. The wine is floral and fruity, with hints of cherry and spices, presenting a mellow and elegant profile with a light tannic taste.
