Italy is home to hundreds of native grape varieties, but a handful have come to define its extraordinary wine culture. Nebbiolo, with its perfume, tension and remarkable ability to age. Sangiovese, with its unmistakable combination of savoury fruit, freshness and sense of place. These are grapes that change dramatically from one hillside to the next, yet remain unmistakably Italian.
In this guided tasting, we travel from north to south through some of Italy’s greatest hits, exploring the grapes, regions and people behind the wines. Expect Nebbiolo, Sangiovese and other favourites along the way: five wines, five very different expressions of Italy, and a chance to understand why these native varieties remain some of the most fascinating grapes in the world.
