Dell'Erba “Artiglio” Vermentino Ponente DOC (2022) – Liguria
THE GRAPE
Vermentino.
THE WINE
This wine is a tribute to the local fishermen who, in 1925, discovered ancient amphorae in their nets. The recovery mission led by the ship "Artiglio" in 1950 unearthed over 700 amphorae, inspiring this unique wine. Made from a single vineyard immersed in the Mediterranean scrub, our Vermentino is macerated in amphora with selected late-harvest grapes.
Artiglio is vinified entirely in amphora, using indigenous yeasts from the vineyard. It presents a soft, smoky flavor with hints of freshly cut grass and aromatic plants. The wine's fermentation occurs in almost spherical ceramic vats, with whole destemmed grapes added to the must. After a three-month maceration, the wine is aged on its fermentation lees for at least six months, resulting in a rich and complex profile.
THE FOOD PAIRING
Our producer recommends enjoying Artiglio with rich and flavorful dishes that complement its smoky and aromatic notes. Serve at a recommended temperature of 14-15°C.
