Castello di Monsanto Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG (2021) – Toscana
THE GRAPES
90% Sangiovese, 10% Canaiolo & Colorino from hillside vineyards in San Donato in Poggio (Chianti Classico), on classic galestro and alberese soils.
THE WINE
Ruby red tending garnet with rich, complex aromas of black cherry, dried cherry, liquorice, violets, pomegranate, and spice. Full-bodied palate offers lush red berry flavours, velvety tannins, vibrant acidity, and iron-streaked minerality. Structured yet approachable, with superb tension and 15+ years ageing potential (95 points James Suckling, Wine Spectator, Decanter). Aged 15 months in used French oak.
FOOD PAIRING
Red meats, roasts, game, wild boar ragù, aged Tuscan cheeses—classic Chianti pairings.
THE WINEMAKER
Castello di Monsanto, Chianti pioneers since 1969 and first to bottle single-vineyard Chianti Classico ("Il Poggio"). Current owner Laura Bianchi continues Fabrizio Bianchi's legacy of terroir-driven Sangiovese from organic vineyards, blending tradition and precision for benchmark Riserva elegance.
