Carussin ASINOI Barbera d'Asti DOC (2020) – Piedmont
THE GRAPE
Barbera
THE WINE
This is a fresh and youthful expression of this classic grape. It boasts an intense red color with violet reflections. On the nose, it offers fragrant aromas of red fruits, cherry, and plum, with a slightly vinous character. The palate is well-structured and full-bodied, with lively freshness and a long finish.
This wine is crafted from vineyards with low yields (about 60 quintals per hectare), ensuring a good concentration of aromas. The grapes are hand-harvested, fermented with native yeasts, and aged for several months in stainless steel tanks before bottling. The result is a fruit-forward, fresh, and smooth-drinking Barbera, perfect for immediate enjoyment.
THE FOOD PAIRING
"Asinoi" pairs beautifully with traditional Piedmontese cuisine. It complements a charcuterie board featuring local cured meats, as well as boiled meats, cooked salumi, bagna cauda (garlic and anchovy dip), and fritto misto alla piemontese (a mixed fried dish from Piedmont).
THE WINERY
Carussin Winery is located in San Marzano Oliveto, in the heart of the picturesque Asti hills. The estate has a rich history, and today it is run by Bruna Ferro and her husband, Luigi. Their focus is on producing wines that respect tradition while embracing sustainable viticulture.
