Enjoying chilled red wine during the summer is a delightful way to beat the heat without relying solely on rosé or white wines (and definitely not with an ice cube!). While Beaujolais is often the go-to choice, don't overlook the charm of delicate Pinot Noirs and Valpolicellas. A slight chill enhances their vibrant cherry notes, making them perfect for warm weather.

We believe chilled red wine is perfect for summer sipping, but we don't stop at just light and fruity reds. We love to explore beyond the ordinary. As Luca says, "Drinking Dettori’s wines on ice is a form of therapy." These wines have age, body, and texture that truly shine when served chilled.

That's why our July Box of the Month is all about Chilled Reds. But not just the usual suspects! Alongside the classic Valpolicella and a Pinot Noir, we've selected some unexpected choices that will surprise you with how a little chill can transform their flavours.

Discover the refreshing side of red wines with our carefully curated selection, perfect for those warm summer days and nights.

WINES

Tenute Dettori, 8 Marxo Romangia Rosso IGT 2021
Discover Ottomarzo from Tenute Dettori, a robust and earthy red crafted from Pascale grapes. Known for being the most tannic of their offerings, this wine strikes a perfect balance between power and elegance. It boasts aromas of cinnamon and plums with a slight fizz at the beginning. This wine is completely natural, unfiltered, and contains no added sulphites. It has an impressive 16% alcohol content, making it a bold choice. Experience a unique expression of an almost forgotten vine

Paltrinieri “Solco” Lambrusco dell’Emilia IGT (N/V)
Indulge in the off-dry delight of Paltrinieri’s “Solco” Lambrusco dell’Emilia IGT. Made from Salamino grapes, this traditional Lambrusco undergoes minimal intervention. It features rich dark fruit flavours with concentrated notes of blackcurrants and blackberries. With just 15mg of residual sugar, it finishes extra crisp and savoury. Enjoy its gentle bubbles best when chilled to 10-12°C. This wine has a modest 11% alcohol content.

“Rivale” Pinot Nero IGT 2021
Experience the exceptional “Rivale” Pinot Nero from Puglia, a region known for its hot climate and chalky limestone soil. This Pinot Noir offers a smoky and leathery nose with undertones of baked berries and grilled plums, complemented by hints of orange zest. On the palate, it is soft, velvety, and well-balanced with flavors of sloe berries, baked cherries, cooking herbs, and plum jam. Its savory finish reflects the vineyard’s proximity to the seaside, while subtle tannins enhance its complexity and elegance.

Antolini Valpolicella Superiore Ripasso DOC 2020
Antolini’s Valpolicella Ripasso Classico Superiore is a fragrant red wine with notes of red fruits. On the palate, it is fresh, savoury, with velvety and enveloping tannins. Made from Corvina, Corvinone, and Rondinella grapes grown in the heart of the Valpolicella Classica region, this wine bridges the gap between youthful Valpolicella and the mature Amarone and Recioto. The Ripasso process involves re-fermenting the wine on the pomace of dried Amarone and Recioto grapes for 5-7 days, adding depth and complexity.

Marchesi di Pianogrillo “Curva Minore” Cerasuolo di Vittoria DOCG 2021
The Cerasuolo di Vittoria DOCG from Marchesi di Pianogrillo is a harmonious blend of Nero d’Avola and Frappato, two iconic grape varieties from Eastern Sicily. Nero d’Avola brings rich fruity aromas and a smooth, seductive taste, while Frappato adds finesse with delicate floral and fruity notes, medium body, mild tannins, and good acidity. Together, they create a wine of great harmony and complexity, with a brilliant ruby color and an intense bouquet of cherry, berries, and pomegranate. It has a medium structure, dynamic, fresh, and pleasant finish.

Cascina Delle Rose Dolcetto d’Alba DOC 2022
The Dolcetto d’Alba 2022 from Cascina Delle Rose offers a fresh palate with delicate hints of wild rose, violet, cherry, red fruits, and gooseberry. It has a pleasant vinous note and a fragrant fruit pulp. The wine features elegant ethereal and spicy sensations of cinnamon and cloves, with good acidity, lively tannins, and a beautiful aromatic persistence. It’s a delightful drink, perfect for enjoying chilled during the summer.
