The Wine
Great perfume on this wine, nice spice, a wicked core cherry of fruit. 2018 showing excellent depth and length, almost plush tannins. Considering the amount of fruit from Monforte that usually has loads of structure is quite a feat. Lovely mouthfeel. Under screwcap, this drinking is beautifully straight out of the bottle. Will develop nicely over the next few years.Incredible value.

 

The Pairing
When matching food to Nebbiolo, you’ll need something that, like the wine, is equally mellow and robust. Go for dishes that are fatty enough to match the tannins in the wine, but not so strongly flavoured that they overpower the aroma and fruit. Wild mushroom risotto, white truffle oil and agnolotti pasta made with eggs and stuffed beef, pork, or rabbit, flavoured with sausage, parmesan cheese, eggs and herbs…
