Marchesi di Pianogrillo Curva Minore” Cerasuolo di Vittoria DOCG (2020) - Sicilia
THE GRAPE
Frappato & Nero d'Avola.
THE WINE
As Sicily's only declared DOCG, Cerasuolo di Vittoria has the reputation of producing some of its finest red wines. Azienda Agricola Pianogrillo is built on the site of a 3rd-century oil mill-cum-Medieval watchtower overlooking cypress trees, vineyards, and olive groves in south-eastern Sicily. There's even a necropolis on the 200-acre property managed today by the last descendant of Baron Lorenzo Piccione di Pianogrillo. How cool is that? It all makes this blend of Nero D'Avola and Frappato (about 50/50) even more enjoyable.
Curva Minore is steel-fermented with wild yeasts in stainless steel tanks, aged in old oak, then bottled unfined and lightly filtered with a minimal amount of SO2.
Flavour Profile: Medium-bodied, dry. An elegant Sicilian wine combining aromatics from Frappato and dark smoky fruit from Nero D'Avola. Cherries, blackberry acids, and minerals on a delightful finish. Food pairing :
THE PAIRING
