Trentino Alto Adige Box

The northernmost frontier of Italy is marked by the most definitive of borders: the Alps. The mountain range within the region of Trentino-Alto Adige also goes by the name of the Dolomites, and extends down the Adige Valley towards Trento. This striking landscape is the setting for countless vineyards that extend up the mountain slopes. These are Alpine wines in the true sense of the word but with an Italian accent.  

Forthis box we are focussing on one half of this region. The province of Trentino that, as the name suggests, surrounds the eponymous city of Trento. In the various valleys that make up Trentino, the wines have a local and international spirit that is reflective of region’s historical oscillation between Austrian and Italian rule. The vines typical of the region range from internationally resilient grapes like Chardonnay and Pinot Grigio, but also indigenous grapes like Marzemino, Teroldego and Nosiola.

Finding winemakers who create wines of a beauty that complements the landscape where they are produced is no mean feat. Yet, we are pleased to say that we have found a few. Enter Eugenio Rosi, Maso Bergamini, Vignaiolo Fanti and Maso Furli. They all work quietly away on their mountainous vineyards, where the altitude combined with the clement climate lends to an array of wines characterised by freshness and intensity. This rings true as much for their red wines as it does for the white wines and indeed also for the sparkling known as Trento DOC.
