Benevelli Barolo MOSCONI DOCG, Piero Benevelli (2019) - Piemonte
The Grape
Nebbiolo.
The Benevelli holds are in the Monforte d'Alba which is on Serrvallian Soil. All the Barolos from Serrvallian have firm tannins and the most potent structure, full of spices and intensity. Benevelli makes three Barolo Crus: Mosconi, Le Coste di Monforte and Ravera di Monforte.
The Wine
This cru - MOSCONI - comes from the highest elevation vines of the domaine's holdings at 400-420 meters above sea level. The estate's 0.6ha holding lies to the north of Le Coste di Monforte and Ravera di Monforte and is more protected from the wind from the south. The wine has the longest maceration on the skin of the three Crus (30 days - with deep colour and tannins extraction) and aged for 20 months in 500 L tonneaux. The vines are 15 years old on average.
Mosconi 2017 shows sheer and utter power. Due to the contribution of altitude, it balances the masculine energy and the spicy intensity with fragrant and mineral structure. This Barolo is built for the long haul but is currently the more approachable Barolo of the three. Max 3,800 bottles produced.
