THE GRAPE
Pollera and local grapes.

THE WINE
La Costa is an extraordinary wine. Firstly it's made out of a blend of red and white grapes - among the most ancient in Italy - and vinified in red. Aged for two years, partly in stainless steel and partly in old barrels, then aged in the bottle for 18 months.

Presenting itself with the garnet colour classic of aged wines - this is a 2008, after all - the noise starts shy, but given a bit of time to adjust to the oxygen contact it will start releasing a delicate yet complex bouquet of ripe cherry, Ratafia liquor and a touch of meatiness and undergrowth.

In the mouth, it's delightful and still moderately fragrant and fresh. Yet, it brings the exciting combination of a blend of 8 - almost unknown - grape varieties aged for nearly 13 years—fantastic value for money.

THE PAIRING
it goes well with grilled white or red meats, medium-aged cheese and pasta with broccoli.
