THE GRAPE
Granatza

THE WINE
Granatza may just be one of our latest obsessions. This indigenous grape so little known beyond Sardinia is now being championed by the winemakers of the little village of Mamoiada. And with good reason: the grape variety is characterised by its bright yellow hue and resistance to common diseases which is why it is particularly appealing for winemakers who are seeking to restore the winemaking traditions of the area.

Vinzas Artas produces its Granatza in tiny quantities: 900 bottles at most. Vinified with natural yeasts and aged on lees in steel tank, it has the freshness so typical of Granatza. Citrus peel and herbs such as thyme and oregano play on the nose and anticipate the taste in the mouth. There is a pervasive acidity and minerality with lemon notes dominating. Its freshness on the palate makes it ideal to pair with seafood dishes and white meat. It is dangerously drinkable; entirely befitting the region of Barbagia from which it originates.
